THE Lahore Bar Association (LBA) has unanimously passed a resolution to support the tenants of Sahiwal, Okara, Khanewal, Raheem Yar Khan and Multan and demanded government to give them ownership rights.
The LBA has also decided to welcome the long march in Lahore, which will commence from Rahim Yar Khan on March 9 (today), under the patronage of Anjuman-e-Mazareen Punjab (AMP).
The LBA General House session, presided over by LBA President Sajid Basher, was held at Aiwan-e-Adil. Advocate Masud- A-Malik submitted a requisition that British Government, 120 years ago introduced canal system in Sahiwal, Okara, Khanewal, Raheem Yar Khan and Multan. He said at that time land in these districts laid fallow. The requisition stated that most lands after the introduction of irrigation system were awarded to landlords and Zaildars while the remaining were granted to tenants who came there from far-flung areas of the province. Tenants with their hard work cultivated the land. Unfortunately during the last decade nefarious rulers through their acts have clearly shown that they have intentions to deprive the fourth generation of the tenants of this land. Through such deeds, rulers were trying to murder millions of tenants economically.
It said many tenants had sacrificed their lives for their cause. Under theses circumstances, the AMP had decided to launch a long march which will commence on March 9 and will stage demonstrations in front of the Punjab Assembly on March 10. The LBA passed the requisition unanimously, saying lawyers will welcome long march participants in Lahore. |
