The Lahore High Court chief justice Tuesday issued a notice to the federal government through a deputy attorney general on an application against possible repatriation of five detained Afghan Taliban.
The court passed the order on an application filed by the chief of Defence Human Rights Commission, Khalid Khawaja, in an already pending main petition against possible repatriation of top Afghan Taliban Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar and four others.
In his fresh application, the petitioner pointed out that the Pakistan law enforcement agencies had arrested five more Afghan Taliban, Tayyab Agha, Hakeemuddin-Mahsood, Mullah Tayyab Popalzai, Abdul Qayyum Zakir and Musa.
He requested the court to restrain the government from handing over the detainees to any other foreign country. He also requested the court to bar the foreign agencies from interrogating the Afghan detainees and issue directions that only the Pakistan intelligence agencies should conduct the interrogation.
In his main petition, Khalid had challenged the likely extradition of Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, Mullah Abdul Salam, Maulvi Kabir, Mullah Muhammad and Ameer Muawiyia.
The LHC chief justice had temporality restrained the federal as well provincial authorities from handing over the detainees to any foreign country. His application will be heard on March 15 along with the main petition. |
